There will come a day when you pick up your child, and put him down for the last time.  I didn’t know it was my last time, and it is a damn good thing, because it would have broken my heart into a million pieces.  He turned ten this month and when I did his photos it hit me.

Ellie is a kid who has to be occupied all.the.time.  I am sharing her newest obsession (she LOVES to cook) because the recipes I found didn’t harden.  After googling, and a couple of tries we got it figured out!  It was easy and she loved it.

    • 2 cups sugar
    • 2/3 cup light corn syrup
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 2 teaspoons flavored extract (We love Raspberry or Lime.)
    • Assorted sprinkles or candy
    • Lollipop sticks
    • Parchment Paper
    1.  Stir together sugar, water, and corn syrup in a pain and bring to boil.
    2. Once it starts boiling DO NOT STIR IT.  Let it boil for 7 minutes.
    3. Place pot in a sink of iceboater for 15 seconds.
    4. Stir in flavor.
    5. WORK QUICK!  Spoon candy onto parchment paper and place sticks and decorations on top.
    6. DONE

Today I planned this boys 10th birthday party.  I can’t stop dwelling on the cliche, “it goes fast.”  How?  How did we get here already?

Of all the wonderful traits this kid has, I am most proud of just how kind he is.  He is literally the nicest person I have ever met.

The best ten years of my life started when he made me a mama.

We are snowed in, in Portland, Maine.  SNOWED. IN. We got a snow storm, followed by an ice storm, followed by a blizzard.  My yard is layered snow, ice, snow up to my knees.  The trees are white and SPARKLY.  I have never seen anything like it. All Christmas day I couldn’t help but think “THIS is what Christmas is supposed to look like.”

I tried something new and I need to share with you.  When I was in ski club at school, every week my aunt would pick me up and make me hot chocolate.  It was just the thing to warm me up and make me feel loved.  I wanted to make some special Christmas Cocoa for the kids to warm up after playing outside. I combined a few recipes (thank you Pinterest) and found CANDY IN A CUP.  Buddy the elf would approve.

This would be perfect for a party, or a special treat.

Let’s face it, it is cold in Maine and sometimes we just have to spoil ourselves to make it though these short days.

    Directions:

    1 cup heavy cream

    1 can condensed sweetened milk

    7 cups whole milk

1 package of Ghirardelli milk chocolate morsels

*Put in the crockpot on low until melted, warm, and delish.*

alp_8354bw Of course, I am thankful for my children, my husband, and all that stuff that we all should be thankful for, all the time.  BUT, I just want to take a minute to tell you, my client, how VERY thankful I am for you.  Because of you trusting me to capture your sweet family, my kids can do swim lessons, and I can turn the heat up when it is cold, and the AC when it is hot.  This is how I support my family, and it is because of YOU.  So thank you.  Thank you, thank you.
