Clients often tell me this is the most stressful part of their session. I am far from a fashion guru, but I do have some tips that help. However, the most important part is planning ahead.

Families should coordinate, not match.

Find one piece you love, and build out from there. Let mom find something she feels fantastic in, and coordinate everyone else around her.

Make sure you are comfortable. If you dress outside of your comfort zone, you won’t relax in front of the camera.

Avoid showing logos

Avoid small patterns, stripes, and baggy clothing.

Think classic and timeless. You don’t want to look back at these images and see a decade.

Earthtones photograph beautifully.

Don’t dress for the season. These images will be displayed in your house year round.

What is Documentary Photography?

You being you! Forget the idea of perfection, and embrace the everyday. Non-traditional photoshoots are (in my opinion) what families need. This is what you should be doing. Invite me along to your next hike, or the next time you bake a cake together, or when you teach your daughter to ride her bike without training wheels. Twenty years from now, this is the stuff we will cherish.

Will I get any traditional portraits?

Yes! We will most definitely get some posed shots in. Offering my client a well rounded package of documentary, traditional, and artistic images- that all work together to create a stunning gallery, is always my goal.

How long will our session take?

Family sessions are typically quick, on average we are on location for 45 minutes to an hour. Posed Newborns are considerably longer, averaging 2 hours, but up to 4.

I would like to purchase the digital files, how much is that?

I love digitals too! Digital Photos and Artwork are included with your session fee, but I highly encourage printing artwork.

Do you offer mini sessions?

Typically every October I host mini-sessions. Occasional an idea comes to me and I run with it-resulting in an off season mini.

What should I expect my photos to look like?

Each session is unique, but consistent with what you see in my portfolio. As the artist, I take it liberty in deciding whether an image will be in color or black and white.

When do I get my images?

My contract allows me 6 weeks to deliver your gallery, but my typical turn around for images is one week. I like to have the extra allowance to take into account that life happens.

Can extended family be in the photos?

YES! But if there are separate family units, they must pay an additional session fee.

I scheduled a Fresh 48 but I had a tough delivery, and would like pictures in my home instead, is this possible?

YES! I am very flexible and accommodating with new moms. Your needs are just as important. Also, it should be said that oftentimes mom never gets out of bed for Fresh48 sessions.
